****************warning!!!! girlie post!!!!!!**************
so i've been thinking, as i often seem to do during the winter, that i might like to change up the hair colour a little. my natural colour, if memory serves, is that sort of nondescript tone that no one actually wants, hovering on the bland border between blond and brown. i've been changing that to light blond, but i'd given some thought to trying out red, a colour i often used in the past. i'm too cheap to actually go to a salon and pay them to do it, so i figured i'd see what was available at the local drug store (where i usually get my hair care products).
it seems that at some point, i missed a memo declaring that all shades of red need to be visible from space. i've done all sorts of funky colours with my hair and i like them fine on other people, but at this point, i'm in my mid-thirties and have no desire to look like one of those women who's desperately trying to prove she's still hip by dyeing her head burgundy. (on a side note, i've never understood why burgundy is the colour of middle-age rebellion.) i actually have a lot of red tone in my hair as it is, so it can look fairly natural, which i like, but at the same time interesting, which i also like.
i would not have thought that achieving auburn would be so difficult. i'd like my hair to be red. i don't need it to stop traffic or protect me on a hunting expedition. back when i did want my hair to look like i'd descended from popsicles, this was not difficult. now, apparently, things have changed.
now i'm remembering why i've stuck with blond.
