making faces :: heroine

i linked in last week's friday favourites to a new collection from mac cosmetics with a wonder woman theme. one of the coolest things about mac is the imagination they show in their collections- rather than having generic seasonal collections, they build them around themes. those themes are sometimes evident more in the imagery that surrounds the product launch than in the products themselves, but it still does lend an air of fun to the proceedings. it also tends to draw in people like me, especially since, in the latter part of 2010, they had collections based on cats (cats don't wear makeup! they don't need it!), disney villains (i'm not a disney fan, but who doesn't want to be a villain sometimes?) and tartan (ah, my scottish heritage calls).

i've never been a big reader of comics, but i'm certainly familiar with wonder woman. she used to grace my screen both in animated form- as one of the superfriends on saturday mornings- and live action, in the guise of the stunning linda carter. she was exactly what i wanted to be- powerful, fearless, resourceful and at the same time womanly. heck, she's still a good example of what i'd like to be.

the good thing about coming out with a makeup collection with this theme is that there is already a set of bold colours associated with the character- bold red, blue and gold- primary colours that make an impact. and there are examples of each of those colours in the collection (and in its lichtenstein-esque packaging). but playing around with some of the products, one of my favourites was a bronze lipstick euphemistically named "heroine". i'm not sure where bronze fits in the ww mythos, but i figured for me, a real world heroine should be decked in bronze and gold, a shining, gilded beacon of metallic strength. besides, bronze isn't a colour i normally wear and what could be a better nod to super-heroism than stepping outside the familiar and comfortable?

products used ::

face
mac prolongwear foundation (nc15)
mac prolongwear concealer (nw20)
mac mineralize skin finish in new vegas
mac magically cool liquid powder in truth & light (worth getting just of the eerie sensation of a wet powder

overall, i'd say this collection is hit (blushes, lipsticks) and miss (eye shadows, pigments/ glitters). but with all the things we do in a day for which we get no credit, it's nice to give yourself a subtle reminder that just facing regular challenges can require a super-heroine.
