SANTA MONICA -- A 24-year-old woman struck by a taxi on Wilshire Boulevard in Santa Monica early Saturday died, police said today.
Melissa Del-Aguila, who recently graduated from UCLA and had been at bar earlier, was struck about 2:30 a.m. near Douglas Park when witnesses say she ran into the street, possibly to hail the cab, and was fatally struck in a westbound lane, Santa Monica police Sgt. Richard Lewis said.
Del-Aguila was wearing shoes with heels about 5 inches high, according to published reports. She was taken to a hospital but later died, police said.
