Unintended Consequences: Federal horse slaughter ban causing more suffering for horses

This is exactly what happens when nanny-state liberals knee-jerk new laws with all their good intentions. More times than naught, the liberal cure is far worse than the disease. Remember the DDT ban based on junk science to keep us all from getting sick? Tens of millions have died of malaria as a result. But it's not just people that get hurt. Bans on logging out old dying trees from national forests? Wildfires have resulted. But this story is in regard to horses: Slaughter ban sending horses across borders. The subline: "GAO says policy has led to ‘unintended consequences’" Uh um.
Congress imposed a back-door ban on horse slaughter in 2006 to try to improve humane conditions, but a new government report says it has backfired and the same horses are now being exported for slaughter in Canada and Mexico, and they likely are suffering more along the journey.

The Government Accountability Office said the policy has led to “unintended consequences” such as depressed prices for all horses and an increase in reports of animal neglect, abuse and abandonment. GAO said Congress and the Obama administration may need to revisit the entire issue.
Actually, Obama is far too busy spending money we don't have to help horses. He voted 4 times to allow for outright infanticide - the murder of born babies in Chicago hospitals who met their end in soiled linen closets - so how is it that he will show compassion for horses?
