Twelve top models from China and Hong Kong will turn South East Queensland into their studio this week as part of a new Tourism Queensland campaign targeting key Asian markets, Tourism Queensland CEO Anthony Hayes said today.
The models will be using Queensland as the backdrop for a calendar that will be distributed throughout Hong Kong, China, Taiwan and Japan.
"The photo shoot will show off the best of South East Queensland, including Brisbane by night, Sirromet Winery, Palazzo Versace and the Gold Coast’s beaches and national parks," Mr Hayes said.
"The visiting models are among Asia’s most famous and we are chuffed that South East Queensland will co-star with them in what will no doubt be a very popular calendar.
"The line up includes Hong Kong’s most famous young model Yeung Wing, also known as Angela Baby, as well as popular Hong Kong models Lynn Xiong, Mikki Yao and Liu Dan."
He said China was a significant growth market for both Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
"The number of Chinese visitors to Brisbane was up 19 percent to 62,000 over the year to March 2010, while Chinese visitors to the Gold Coast were up 15 percent to 106,000 over the same period," Mr Hayes said.
"Chinese visitors also spent $326 million on trips to Queensland, an increase of $87 million from the previous year.
"The exposure our vibrant destinations will receive through the top model calendar will hopefully help entice more Chinese visitors to come and holiday in South East Queensland."
