"It was the winter of my discontent": Poetry Corner- Jay-Z Proclaims 'Rap Is Poetry'
Jay-Z , rap mogul, extraordinaire speaks about rap music in his book 'Decoded'. He likens rap music to great poetry. When you think of it, this is a poignant and true statement. Some of the best lyrics, either from Notorious B.I.G, Rakim, Nas, Lauryn Hill, Common or Jay-Z himself can be stripped away from the music, the samples and the drums and sit side by side with the works of Langston Hughes, Ernest Hemingway and others and be great as well. Take a listen to Jay as he breaks it down.

Since we visiting poetry today.. let me give you a little taste of what I CAN DO:
'Fad-dy Acids'
by: Zam Zhinga the GOD
Everybody wanna be a thug
But what's cool about that?
Wearing a polyester rage under a hat to the back.
It's what you see on TV
Something intangible you try to be.
Just a fleeting FAD
Like 'J.J.'
Oaktown 3-5-7
Sitting at the curb waitin' for the bus
I think its the 11.
White T-shirt, extra large of course.
Shrug it off, showing no remorse
Clear your throat, you sounding a little hoarse.
But a horse is a horse of course of course.
You gettin' laughed off the buss 'cause you ain't down with sports.
But who needs it, just sell some 'cain
Shoot your brother, spill his brains.
Blood stains on the abandoned stoop
Then rap about it to stay in the loop.
