Clown from MN Al Franken: If debt ceiling isn't increased, terrorists will come across the border. Fact: terrorists already crossing the border!

Al Franken’s Theatre of the Absurd Hits the Senate Floor:
And via memeorandumFranken's SNL moment on the Senate floor
For a moment Wednesday, Al Franken looked like he was back on the set of Saturday Night Live and not on the floor of the U.S. Senate. In a speech explaining that there would be no money to pay for military and security personnel if Congress doesn’t pass a bill increasing the debt ceiling by Aug. 2, Franken unveiled a large poster in the chamber that said, “Welcome Terrorists.”

Franken aimed his theater of the absurd at those who believe the U.S. doesn’t have to raise the debt limit to avoid economic catastrophe. He couched it as black humor, but certainly not as comic relief in a House and Senate deadlock that economists say puts the U.S. at risk of a financial meltdown. ...
Fact is though, terrorists are pouring across the border:
Franken himself is an open borders guy anyway and the above points to the fact that he has become a parody of himself. More from The Radio Equalizer, Pajamas Media and American Spectator

Video Report: Illegal Alien Breaches Security at Arizona Nuke Plant

"An illegal alien previously deported in 2000, used a fake ID to gain entrance to the Palo Verde nuclear plant - the largest in the nation - for nearly 5 hours before plant security, who grew suspicious of the ID, contacted Sheriff Joe Arpaio's office who determined it was a phony and arrested him. As we reported months ago, Hizbollah has operations in Mexico where Muslim terrorists are learning Spanish and assuming Hispanic names. But I guess since Big Sis and Obama insist the border is secure, we can't expect DHS to take an interest in securing NUCLEAR plants any time soon. I mean what could an Iranian terrorist re-named "Carlos Baez" do with a toolkit of C4 and access to a nuclear plant anyway?"
Meanwhile, 95-year old cancer-stricken grandmothers are getting an anal exam at airports to keep us safe. Um - yeah. Well, at least there are one fewer as of last week: Mexican National Shouts 'Viva Mexico!' as He's Executed in Texas
As the lethal injection began taking effect, the Mexican National convicted of the brutal rape and killing of a teenage girl in 1995 shouted, "Viva Mexico!" just before he died at a Texas prison.

Efforts by Humberto Leal's attorneys to halt the execution fell short, with the U.S. Supreme Court turning back a stay request and Texas Gov. Rick Perry refusing to grant a pardon. He was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m. local time.
Obama tried to get him off. Natch. Good riddance:

Audio: Allen West (R-FL) Calls for Eric Holder's Removal Over 'Fast and Furious'

Removal? How about thrown in jail for subverting the US Constitution?
"This is just another sad chapter in the Eric Holder book of ineptness and incompetence," West said. "Eric Holder needs to be brought before an investigative committee and if those charges are warranted he needs to be held accountable.

"At least the president needs to realize that Eric Holder needs to be removed from the Department of Justice ... or else it appears President Obama is complicit and in approval of the actions of his attorney general," he said.
The audio:
This an update from a couple months ago: Incompetent: Obama claims ignorance in ATF's "Project Gunrunner". Plus this one: Video Report: 43 Weapons in Phoenix Traffic Stop Linked to ATF's 'Fast and Furious'. Well, his is ignorant, and unqualified to hold the office of the President. The scope of Eric Holder's disastrous 'Fast and Furious" ATF operation just keeps expanding. Now a single traffic stop in Phoenix has revealed 43 automatic weapons with serial numbers traceable to the the ATF scandal - taken from 4 illegal aliens arrested in the stop. How many AK-47s has this Administration put in the hands of gangs throughout the U.S. How many children will die in drive-bys using weapons Holder GAVE to criminals? And with the ATF Director now saying the DoJ obstructing the investigation, the House GOP must not stop until all responsible are rotting in jail. And what did Obama know and when did he know it?

"If his account is accurate, then ATF leadership appears to have been effectively muzzled while the DOJ sent over false denials and buried its head in the sand," Rep. "That approach distorted the truth and obstructed our investigation."

US Rep. Hansen Clarke (D-Detroit): “I’m the son of an undocumented immigrant — and I’m proud to say that”

Only to a Democrat is the explicit violation of our laws a good thing. So much so that it gives them a sense of pride. Can you imagine a Congressman opining of how proud he is of his murderer father? His thief father? His drug-dealing dad? How's this different? From The Detroit Free Press: Detroit Congressman says he's proud to be son of illegal immigrant
U.S. Rep. Hansen Clarke (D-Detroit) told a crowd last night in Detroit that he was proud to be the son of an illegal immigrant.

Speaking at a forum about racial profiling of Latinos, Clarke — whose late father immigrated from what is now Bangladesh — said:

“I’m the son of an undocumented immigrant — and I’m proud to say that.”
And of course, he employed the tried and true Democrat ploy of conflating legal immigration with the illegal variety:
...Elected last year, Clarke is the first U.S. Congressman of Bangladeshi descent. He said at the forum that “we are a nation of immigrants,” noting the contributions of Latino immigrants to southwest Detroit.
We are a nation of LEGAL immigrants! But then towards the end of the piece, t was unclear if Hansen Clarke is truly the son of an illegal alien or a legal one and using the possibility for political gain:
After the hearing, Clarke told the Free Press that his father was “more than likely undocumented” when he came to the US. His father immigrated in the 1930s from pre-Partition India, then under British rule, and died in 1965.
And for the record, Chelsea Clinton-Whatever is proud that she's the daughter of an impeached chief exec who lied on the stand under oath.

Metaphor of the day: Dream Act Supporters Invade RNC Offices

Is there a better metaphor for the invasion of the US by illegal aliens bent on re-settling our country than their supporters invading and occupying offices of their political opponents? Via BreitbartTV, the 'new civility' (cont'd):

Video of Dick Durbin (D-IL): Maybe Illegal Alien Will Become President Someday

Being that illegal aliens that violate our laws and nation's sovereignty are Democrats' favorite constituency as they re-settle America, it should come as no surprise that a leading rabid Democrat would want to install one as President of the United States: Durbin: Maybe Illegal Alien Will Become President Someday
Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) said in a congressional hearing Tuesday that a young person who is an illegal alien in the United States today may someday become president.

“When I look around this room, I see America's future, our doctors, our teachers, our nurses, our engineers, our scientists, our soldiers, our congressmen, our senators, and maybe our president,” Durbin said immediately after having asked all young persons in the room to stand if they were currently undocumented aliens who would be eligible to become citizens if the DREAM Act were passed.

As a videotape of the hearing shows, a large portion of the audience in the room rose at Durbin's request. Durbin also said in his introductory remarks that there were "hundreds" of young people in the room eligible to become beneficiaries of the DREAM Act.
In truth, however, he or she couldn't possibly do worse than Obama has in 2 1/2 years. So there's that. Then again, you can pick an actual citizen randomly out of a phone book and he or she would do better than O. More from Michelle Malkin and The Lonely Conservative. HT: memeorandum

Ugh: High School Principal Delivers Graduation Speech... in Spanish!

It's not good enough enough for the liberal ruling class to simply import the poor (aka - undocumented Democrats) from other countries to overwhelm the entitlement system and implode the economy so they can shred the US Constitution and rebuild the country in their own image. They have to do that while simultaneously subverting the education system as well:
George Whittell High School principal Crespin Esquivel delivered his graduation address to the class of 2011 in English and then translated it into Spanish so his graduating students could understand it.
America is being resettled by La Raza, with Obama's blessing. Via BreitbartTV

UPDATE: Principal Criticized For Delivering Graduation Speech In Spanish
One woman who sat through both speeches wrote a letter to the editor in a local newspaper saying Esquival “crossed the line”, “was inappropriate” and “took away from the recognition the students deserved.”

Pilgrims Musa and Sheri in the New World at ACT

I'd said I was going to leave this to the critics as my inner "wtf am I talking about?" fear usually overtakes me when talking about topics I don't know much about, so I will preface this post by saying it's not so much a review as an impression of a show I stumbled upon looking for some Seattle culture (not even knowing the theater was 2 blocks from my hotel) and walked away from with lots to think about.

If I lived in Seattle I'd totally get an ACT Pass from ACT Theatre; for $25/month you get to see as much of their theater as you can. I highly, highly recommend Pilgrims Musa and Sheri in the New World, for which I had a front-row seat. Though it was largely about Musa's experience as an immigrant from Egypt, it was also about love, passion, culture, sexuality and expectations and there were so many lines that resonated with me, some of the funnier ones, like Sheri shaking her stomach fat at us and telling Musa that it was like a "rubber tire" (and there were lots of very funny moments) but more lines like "Here's to temptation and the strength to resist it" and "I really am more of a lady than I appear." I started off thinking I was so much like Sheri with her sexy underwear and talkativeness and boldness and provocativeness but wound up identifying with Musa a lot, Musa who admits to being imperfect, to being unable to live up to his family's and others' expectations, who feels them as burdens he can't reveal to anyone (including himself, for the most part), yet who wants so much from the world and the people in it.

I wrote most of this post save for this section last night and then went to sleep and had a really twisted dream and woke up and thought about how Musa would've liked the Clem Snide song, "I Love the Unknown," not just because it's American, but because that is, to me, what he was saying. He says to one of the characters who I don't even want to mention for fear of giving away too much of the plot, "I want confusing." And that was where it turned for me from an immigrant story to a very universal one. Or at least, if not universal, then where I saw myself in Musa. In the song, Eef Barzelay says of his character that he'll get off at "the place with the most allure" and I think that is why Musa, for all his faults, won me over. There's a point where he says he wants to travel and Sheri tells him he's come all the way from Cairo. "Isn't that traveling?" she asks and he says no, not really, because so much--too much--remained the same. I don't think he was a vagabond so much as a searcher and seeker who was looking for that elusive piece of the puzzle that is life (which I realize is not just one piece). It is about him finding it in the United States and while it was emphasized in the program that this is a very American play, which, in many ways, it is, I don't see it as just an ode to the "melting pot"--thankfully.

I am always interested in the moment, or moments, or overall effect, when a piece of art transcends its specificity. I was in downtown Seattle, watching a play about New York City, and it all sortof fit together and that scene, though Musa's venom is a little bit misdirected, was very real to me, about the tension between the expected and the unexpected, between obligation and passion. There is obviously a lot more going on in Pilgrims but that crystallized a lot of things for me as I saw there trying to be as unobtrusive as possible with my pen and paper in my lap.

I think the play also shows us that infidelity, and our very concepts of fidelity--to lovers, to family, to culture, to ourselves, even--are complicated and complex and I think that aspect of the show was done very well. We are living in a time, certainly, where infidelity is seen as a grave crime that others have the right to judge, and I'm not saying the play didn't judge its characters--Musa, certainly, was his own biggest critic--but without trying to justify his actions, he humanized them. The play was set in New York, which made me feel a little touch of home as well.

There was a lot going on. Yes, it's a romantic comedy, and it's plenty comedic; coffee is thrown and Sheri in particular, about the perils of dating in New York, is quite funny, but there are other moments that, without a word, say so so much, like Gemila shaking out her hair.

The program has some interesting pieces in it as well exploring the concept of "pilgrims," "pilgrimage," immigration, culture and belonging. So please do check it out; there were a few parts and minor characters that I didn't think really fit, but they were dwarfed by what I thought worked. Coming this summer to ACT: Sarah Ruhl's look at hysteria, In the Next Room, or the vibrator play, which is a humorous take on a disturbing period of history when women's sexuality was treated as, well, a medical problem, by doctors who had very little knowledge of it.

What other people are saying:

While one critic panned it as "really your standard rom com" (I don't agree, but maybe that is why I liked it, as I am a rom com fan), here's this review from SeattleActor.com:

For all those rather large concerns, the great success in this play is that these characters are so accurately and authentically drawn, so sympathetic without necessarily being admirable. Musa is a recent Egyptian immigrant, driving a cab in New York and trying to build a domestic life in his “empire” (an upstairs apartment of simple, slightly tawdry decor and unflattering lighting). When he invites Sheri to come home with him late one night, it is to simply get to know her better. Or so he would have himself believe.

Musa, played with earnest, charming modesty and sincerity by Shanga Parker, is “a bad Muslim” by his own admission, and his offer of Scotch to Sheri is an indication of his own weakness, and an invitation to hers. Sheri is not really crude or vulgar so much as simply common, the sort of free-wheeling waitress you might encounter anywhere at any time. Slightly older than Musa, she wants him to know that she is not the kind of woman who is likely to be in the situation she is currently in, or acting the way she is currently acting, or certainly not likely to end up in bed with a man she barely knows, as she will on this night.

ICE Amnesty Rules Already in Effect: Illegals Released in PA

Who needs Congress when a megalomaniac can make all the important decisions all by himself by executive order?
The new ICE memorandum restricting detainment of illegal aliens only when they pose a "national security risk" are already being implemented on the ground! Here, Beaver Meadows, PA cops nab illegals for multiple offenses: assault (in MD), driving w/o license or insurance, reckless driving, etc., and the illegals wave and laugh at the camera - because they know under Barack Obama, America has given up its sovereignty, and laws will no longer be enforced against potential Democrat voters such as these.

YOU try speeding in a school zone in Mexico with just a U.S. voter registration card, or nothing at all. You would be there for a very long time.
Ain't that the truth:
