Former newspaper editor jailed for child porn

WINNIPEG — A Winnipeg man has been sentenced to four months in jail after getting caught in an international child pornography investigation.

Mark Perry, 59, pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of possession and distribution of several graphic images of nude children as young as five years old.

Perry was arrested in early 2010 after Winnipeg police were alerted by Danish authorities that he had been posting a handful of pictures in an online chat room.

Perry's arrest stunned colleagues at the Winnipeg Sun newspaper, where he has worked as an editor for 20 years. He was eventually fired from his job.

"He was vilified in the media. He suffered shame and degradation," defence lawyer Martin Glazer told court on Tuesday. "He's not looking forward to going to jail, but he knows your honour has no other choice."

Recent legislative changes have resulted in mandatory minimum jail sentences for child pornography offences. Perry has no prior criminal record and has been undergoing counselling and therapy since his arrest, said Glazer.

Crown attorney Terry McComb said Perry has been fully co-operative with police in admitting he liked "younger, or young-looking girls." He even provided investigators with passwords to access encrypted parts of his computer files.

Lawyers did not provide an exact number of images seized by police but said there was more legal adult pornography than child pornography found. All of the downloading occurred on his home computer.

Perry was also given three years of supervised probation Tuesday and his name will be placed on the national sex offender registry.

Hindari dan waspadalah saat menyimpan gambar atau video porno dalam laptop pribadi sekalipun. Karena suatu saat bisa memalukan bahkan membahayakan karier sendiri.

Seperti yang dialami James Cooney (35) pak guru yang mengajar di Port Talbot, South Wales, Inggris. Gara-gara komputer di kelasnya rusak, dia pagi pagi mengeluarkan laptop pribadi yang dibawa dari rumah.

Saat memaparkan pelajaran di depan siswanya yang berumur 11-12 tahun, tiba-tiba muncul film DVD porno sedang adegan hot. Tayangan tak bermoral ini muncul beberapa saat sehingga siswanya sempat menonton walau akhirnya protes minta dihentikan.

Pak guru pun keheranan karena tak menyangka tayangan yang muncul adalah film porno karena ia ingin memaparkan grafis materi pelajaran saat itu. Dia pun malu dan buru-buru mematikan DVD player dalam laptop yang disorotkan ke layar lebar dalam kelas.

Rupanya keteledoran pak guru itu tak berakhir begitu saja. Dinas Pendidikan di Wales segera memanggil dan memintai keterangan terkait insiden film  porno di kelas yang ia ajar. Dalam persidangan terungkap, gara gara komputer kelas rusak maka pak guru mengeluarkan laptop pribadi..

Dia tidak menyangka adanya film porno dalam laptop itu sehingga bisa muncul tayang di kelas. Pak Guru yang bertubuh kekar itu meminta maaf karena tidak sengaja. Sayang, keteledorannya telah mengancam karier dan lisensi mengajar yang ia miliki terancam dicabut.

Yang disayangkan bukan karena laptop pribadi yang dipakai mengajar tapi murid murid terlanjur menonton film porno di kelas secara ramai-ramai pada saat jam pelajaran.
